Richard D. Smith, 63, Archbald, passed away Wednesday morning after a brief stay at Allied Hospice. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Kathleen Duffey Smith.
Born in Scranton, Richard was the son of Margarete Wilson Smith and the late Cecil Smith. Richard graduated from Scranton Central High School and was a member of Christ the King Parish in Archbald. Prior to his retirement, Richard was employed by Lackawanna County Human Development Agency.
Richard was an avid sports fan and could always be found sporting gear for his favorite teams including the Valley View Cougars Football Team, Penn State Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies and LA Lakers. Richard enjoyed many things in life and always had a sense of humor. His laughs could be heard down the block. He enjoyed a variety of music such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, ELO and Harry Chapin. Richard will always be remembered for his hard work and compassion for others. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Also surviving are daughters Noelle Smith and companion, Chris Tigue, of Dunmore; and Samantha Anglin and husband John, of Scranton; a brother, James Smith, and wife Valerie, of Louisiana; a grandson, Kollin Ware; a sister-in-law, Ruth Coleman and husband Mark, of Dallas, PA; as well as nieces, Jessica Thomisee, Kristen Azzarelli, and nephews, Scott Smith and Joseph Azzarelli.
