The Reverend Joseph J. Fanti, retired priest of the Diocese of Allentown, died at the Green Ridge Health Care and Rehab Center, Scranton, PA on Saturday, Jan 15. He was 82 years of age.
Born in Archbald, he was the son of the late Anthony and Carmella Adamo Fanti. He was a graduate of Archbald High School and attended University of Scranton and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Maryland
He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1990 by the Most Reverend Thomas J. Walsh, Bishop of Allentown, at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena, Allentown. Father Fanti was assigned as Parochial Vicar, Sacred Heart Parish, Bath, and subsequently Parochial Vicar, St Catherine of Siena Parish, Mount Penn. In 1993, at his request, he was released for service to the Diocese of Scranton. He spent most of his priestly duties at Queen of Angels Parish, Jessup, until his health declined.
Surviving are his caring sister, Catherine Inells and husband Paul, Archbald, nieces Annette Miller, Florida, Sarah Harrison and husband Tom, Archbald, nephew, Patrick Munley and partner Kim, Florida, great niece Angela Yachna and husband Edward, great nephews Bryan Munley, Trevor Miller, Ian Miller, Trey Miller, Colin Munley and Thomas Harrison, great-great niece Carmella Yachna and great-great nephew Giulio Yachna and several cousins.
Preceded in death is a brother, Anthony Fanti, in 2011.

A mass of Christian Burial for Father Fanti will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Alfred A. Schlert, Bishop of Allentown at Christ the King Parish, St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald on Saturday, January, 29 at 10 am. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. There is no Viewing and Interment is private. Family requests no flowers. Donations in Father Fanti’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
