Nicholas J. Portaro

Nicholas J. Portaro, 76, of Archbald, died Friday, July 22, 2022 at his residence following a lengthy illness.  His caring family at his side. He was the husband of the late Concetta Valenti Portaro who died August 27, 2002.

Born in Queens, NY, he was a son of the late Joseph Portaro and Marion Harmon Portaro and stepfather, John Scott. He attended NY schools, was of Catholic faith and before moving to Archbald, Nick was employed by Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as a NYC bus driver.  He took great pride is his occupation and frequently told stories of his daily adventures on city roads and the tales of unique and humorous experiences he came across from the people he encountered.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He had a special talent to make you smile. He loved his country and demonstrated it by proudly displaying our nation’s flag and wearing his numerous USA gear.

Surviving is his daughter, Jeanine Sherbloom and companion, John Radek whom he resides with; Donna Budrow, Archbald, his faithful and loving companion for the past 5 years; a sister, Karen Cosgrove, Moscow; and grandsons, Justin Portaro and Michael Sherbloom, Jr.

Preceding him besides his wife, was a grandson Matthew Joseph Sherbloom who died July 22, 2005 and special aunt, Lorraine Kenny.

As per Nick’s request, a cremation was performed at Maple Hill Crematory at Salem, Archbald.  Services were private.  Arrangements entrusted to the Louis J. Rapoch Funeral Home, 420 Church St. Archbald. To offer condolences, visit the funeral home website.
