Kenneth Finley Obituary

Kenneth P. Finley

March 18, 2021

Kenneth P. Finley, 58, of Peckville passed into our Lord’s hands at home in the arms of his loving wife, Marie Matala Finley.  They were married 34 years.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Jean Oster Finley and the late Reverend Robert Finley.  Ken was a 1980 graduate of Valley View High School and graduated from Luzerne County Community College with a Paramedic certification.   He was one of the original CMC Mobile 1 paramedics (Paramedic #121).  He later went on to Lackawanna College through ACT 120 Program and served as a Police Officer in the Blakely and Dickson City Police Departments.  In 1990, Ken entered the PA Department of Corrections and retired after 20 years as a Lieutenant where he was well respected by his fellow officers.  After retirement from the Commonwealth, he went to work as the Assistant Director of Public Safety at Lackawanna College.

Ken loved our Lord Jesus and was a past member of the Blakely PM Church where he served as Board President and Station Steward.  More recently, he attended the North Valley Baptist Church in Mayfield.  He was a kind-hearted, affectionate, and gentle man.  A great husband and father, he and Marie lived by Proverbs 3:5-6.  To Marie, he truly was her best friend, her love, her soulmate, and her life.

Besides his wife Marie and mother Jean,  he  is survived by his son Joshua Swartz and fiancé Jennifer, Grandson Lucas, his brothers: Bob and wife, Linda, Jacksonville, Fl: John and wife Tina, Lakeland, FL; nieces and nephews.  Mark and Sherry Adams, Louie and Karen Rapoch were the brothers and sisters Ken chose for himself who he cherished dearly.  He absolutely adored and loved his two blue-eyed monkeys, Samantha and Makenna Adams.

Preceded in death besides his father was Brother-in-law, Michael and wife Carolyn Matala.

The family would like to recognize and thank Theresa Micknick PA-C,  Dr. Tamrat. Bekele, Joellen and staff for their caring, compassion and special treatment.  Maria, Cheryl, Joany and Trish from Home Health Care Professionals – Hospice, were the angels sent from above and provided the best loving care.

Viewing will be Monday, March 22,  between 5 – 8 PM at the Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 AM at the North Valley Baptist Church, 1300 Old Plank Rd, Mayfield.  Those who will be attending the Funeral are asked to go directly to the Church.  Donations to the North Valley Baptist Church in Ken’s name.
