Joyce Knott, 71, resident of Scranton and Leesburg, Florida, died Friday morning in Regional Hospital, Scranton. She was the wife of James M. Knott. They were married September 23, 1972.
Born in Peckville, daughter of the late Walter and Anna Mancuso Petrosky, she attended Archbald schools and graduated from Archbald High School and Lackawanna Junior College.
After years as a homemaker, Joyce worked in the University of Scranton’s Foreign Languages Department for over 25 years until her retirement. During that time, she began taking classes and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Scranton in 1995.
Throughout her life and especially in retirement, Joyce enjoyed reading, cruise travel, music, and the arts. She spent many hours crocheting items for donation, especially baby blankets for local hospitals. Joyce was always willing to lend a hand to stray animals and people in need, either directly or through local community groups.
She is mourned deeply by her husband Jim, Scranton; her brother Walter Petrosky and wife Barbara, Archbald and her nephew Walt Petrosky; her daughter Laura Knott and husband Tom DiGangi, New Jersey; her daughter Sherry Knott and fiancée Anthony Passariello, West Scranton; her daughter Shelly Knott and fiancée Erick Litts, Daleville; seven grandchildren; her Aunts Betty Livsey, Joanie Mancuso, and Frances Consagra; numerous cousins, family, and friends.
Joyce wished her body would be donated to scientific research to help others. A memorial is not planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in her honor.
