John P. Grabin, 93, of Eynon died at Allied Hospice, Scranton. His widow is Eleanor Konasavage Grabin and she and John would have celebrated their 71st anniversary on June 30.
Born in Eynon on August 5, 1928, he was the son of the late Stephen and Anna Matala Grabin. He was member of St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Eynon, Christ the King Parish and a member of its Holy Name Society. As a sergeant in the Army, John served as an automotive serviceman.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Coccetti and husband Peter, Nancy Addley and husband James, Eynon; Mayor Shirley Barrett and husband Eugene, Archbald; son-in law, Michael Pellis, Eynon; grandson, Jamie Addley and wife Susan, great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Andrea Addley, Eynon; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by a daughter, Joanne Pellis, brothers Joseph, Daniel and Stephen Jr.
John enjoyed reading books on religion and space and faithfully said the rosary daily. He had a talent for sketching and painting and shared many of his portraits and landscapes with his daughters.
During his last week of illness, he stated “We are like a river with a beginning and an end, I am at the end of the river.”
John was a kind and quiet man and because of his wishes, there will be no viewing hours.
The family will greet family and friends at the church one hour before mass. Mass at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church, Eynon at 10 am, Friday, June 10 celebrated by Monsignor Patrick Pratico.
Burial at St. Francis Cemetery, Eynon at the convenience of the family.
