Gaetano “Junior” Calabro, 82, of Archbald, died Wednesday at Allied Hospice Center, Clarks Summit surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the former Nancy Richards. They were married 61 years. She was the love of his life and they were inseparable, often seen patronizing their favorite restaurants together.
Born in Archbald, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Sarah Fanti Calabro. He graduated from Archbald High and from Johnson Technical School, Scranton. Before his retirement he was employed as a mechanic at Tony’s Garage. He and his brother enjoyed many years working alongside each other repairing cars. The garage was their sacred haven. Junior was a member of the East Side Hose Company, Archbald and received the 50-year service award. Here he served as treasurer and trustee for many terms. He was a faithful member of Christ the King Church and a Fire Marshall for the Valley View School basketball games. A man of great character, non-judgmental, well respected and always willing to help others with a comforting smile.
Surviving is a son, Gaetano III and wife Renee, Jefferson Township, Daughter, LuAnn Urso and husband David, Dickson City; and son, Larry and wife Amanda, MA.; Grandchildren: Amy Burns, Gaetano IV and wife Kylie, David Urso Jr. and wife Danielle, James Urso, Austin, Cadell and Lukas Calabro; great grandchildren Callie and Chloe Burns, David III; sister Catherine Williams, Syracuse, NY and many nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death were brothers Anthony, Joseph and a sister Mary Hreha.
The funeral will be Monday, January 31st with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment St. Thomas Church Cemetery. Viewing Sunday, January 30th, 5-7pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Gaetano’s name to East Side Hose Company, # 4, 458 Salem Rd. Archbald.
