Dorothy R. Villegas, 88, of Jessup, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8 at Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, Scranton, where she was a resident. She was the wife to the late, Manuel Villegas who died in 2003. They were married 47 joyous years.
Born and raised in Peckville, she was the daughter of the late George and Veronica Killiany Brenzel. A graduate of Blakely High School and a faithful member of Holy Cross Parish, Olyphant. She was actively involved in the Auxiliary of Shopa – Davey, VFW #6082, Peckville and was a Past President. Her greatest pleasure was preparing and cooking food for several of the VFW fundraising and social events. She will be remembered for her delightful meals and the recipes she shared to so many. In her later years, when Dorothy moved to Jessup, she gained a wealth of new friendships. She was admired for her warm smile and witty sense of humor.
The family is grateful and wish to thank the staff at Allied Skilled Nursing Center and Allied Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Dorothy.
Surviving are her two devoted sons, Joseph and wife, Liz, Olyphant and Michael, Jessup. She always stood lovingly and strongly alongside her boys and their families. They meant everything to her.
Preceding her in death was her son, James, her two grandchildren, Joseph Villegas who died 2003 and Julie Villegas who died 2016, her brother, George Brenzel, and two sisters, Elizabeth Martini and Eleanor Krazan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 12 at 9:30 A. M. at Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick’s Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant. Honoring Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. Interment Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely. Donations may be made to your favorite charity. No flowers please.
