Bernard P ‘Bernie’ Olenick, 79, Archbald, passed away Sunday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a brief illness. His beloved wife of 56 years is the former Barbara A. Chorba.

Born October 15, 1937, in Sturges, he was the son of the late Paul and Anna Getzie Olenick. Bernie was a graduate of Archbald High School, a member of Christ the King Parish, St Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald, and the American Legion Hrichak-McAndrew Post #869. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Before retirement, he was a tool designer for Lockheed Martin, Archbald, PA. Bernie also played the keyboards with The Senators for several years, and later with his sons Bernie and Chris in the band, The New Generation; often seen at The Mountainview, Justus, PA.

Bernie leaves behind a loving family who will forever adore him and miss him. When Bernie met Barb, it was true love. He was a loving, devoted husband as well as her best friend; they did everything together. Bernie was also a great father who loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and family who were his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and looked forward to a few Genny’s on Thursday nights at the Legion with his brother Buck.

Bernie is survived by his three sons, Bernie, Throop; Chris and Mike, both of Peckville; his brothers Paul Jr. ‘Buck’ and wife Mary Ann Olenick, Archbald; and David, Dickson City; his granddaughter Kara and grandson Ryan, both of Peckville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 15, 9:30 a.m., Christ the King Parish, St Thomas Aquinas Church, 429 Church Street, Archbald. Family will receive friends 5 to 8 pm Wednesday, at the Louis J. Rapoch Funeral Home, 420 Church Street, Archbald.
