William “Wire” J. Hughes died Saturday evening, March 2 at Riverside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor. He was the dedicated husband to Maureen Marion Collura Hughes.
Born in Carbondale, he was a son of the late, Edward and DeSales Morrow Hughes. Bill was 1959 graduate of Archbald High School and honorable served in the US Airforce. Prior to Bill’s illness he was a self-employed painter. He is well known for the delicate work he accomplished for area churches. A faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Christ the King Parish, Archbald where he attended mass daily and had immense faith in the love of God.
Surviving is a step son, Warren Walters, Jermyn and family; a brother, Edward Hughes and wife, Theresa, Archbald; sister-in-law Susan Hughes, Binghamton; four nephews, Edward Hughes and wife, Amy, Archbald; Michael Hughes and wife, Michelle, Clarks Summit; Patrick Hughes and wife, Ryann and Stephen Hughes and wife, Shanna, both of Binghamton and a niece, Amy Hassij and husband, Robert, Archbald; great nieces and nephews; step children, Katherine Witkowski and husband, Carl; Mary Ruzzi, Charles Collura and families; brother in law, Donovan Marion and wife, Regina; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Sheridan, Darlene Morcom, Lorraine Dembrosky, Kathleen Augustine, Ann Curtis, Erin Kenney, Geralyn Olick, Shannon Phillips and husband, Stan; and extended families.
Preceding him in death were brothers, Thomas, John “Yock” and Patrick Hughes.
A special thank you to the staff of Riverside Healthcare, Taylor for allowing Bill to live his last years with dignity.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 6 at 10 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Christ the King Parish, Archbald. Inurnment parish cemetery. Donations to St. Francis Assisi Food Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave. Scranton, PA. 18509
