Janet Ann Zelna

Janet Ann Zelna, 59, Eynon, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Thursday morning, at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born Tuesday, June 17, 1958, at Mid-Valley Hospital, Peckville, she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. & Edna Theresa (Bershefsky) Zelna. Janet was a 1976 graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School, Dunmore; a 1978 graduate of the last class at Scranton State General Hospital School of Nursing. She earned her R.N. and C.C.R.N. certifications, and then pursued further education, as a 2004 graduate of Misericordia University, Dallas, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and graduated on May 10, 2010 from Marywood University, Dunmore, with a Master’s Degree in Nursing. She was inducted into the Nursing Honor Society while attending both universities.

Janet spent her nursing career at Mercy Hospital later known as Regional Hospital of Scranton. She held multiple roles such as, I.C.U. Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Emergency Room Manager, and Cath Lab Manager. Her most recent role was Infection Control Disease Nurse. She showed the utmost respect and compassion for her patients, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism.

Her joys of life were time spent with family, her devotion to the Roman Catholic faith, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

She was a member of Christ the King Parish, St Mary Czestochowa Church, Eynon.

Janet is survived by her devoted brother and sister-in-law Al and Lorie Zelna, Falls; her beloved nephews Alexander and Zachary Zelna; Falls; her Aunt Mary Ann Bershefsky, Eynon; and several cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes can be found at the funeral home.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the Regional Hospital of Scranton and the doctors who took very good care of her, and a very special thank you, to Louis and Karen Rapoch, and Allen and Jill Anne Dryzal for all of Janet’s, end of life, care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish, St Mary Czestochowa Church, 417 Main Street, Eynon. THOSE ATTENDING MASS ARE ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment to follow at Our Mother of Sorrow Cemetery, Finch Hill, Greenfield Township.
